On Saturday, September 18 at 3:00 p.m.there will be a vivid presentation by Fred Hampton: "New Mexico's Buffalo Soldiers!" A special Chautauqua presentation, sponsored by the New Mexico Humanities Council.
But who were the Buffalo Soldiers? The Buffalo Soldiers began in 1866 with freed
slaves who joined the U.S. Army’s Cavalry and Infantry. They are said to have acquired their
name because they fought as hard as wounded buffaloes. They fought in New Mexico, Texas, Arizona, Kansas, Utah, Wyoming,
Montana, Oklahoma and many other locations. They are a little known part of our New Mexico history. WHERE: Unitarian Universalist Westside Congregation, 1650 Abrazo Rd. (about a mile west of Unser Blvd, near the corner of Abrazo and Inca) in Rio Rancho.
The event is free, and all are welcome. Doors will open at 2:30 p.m. To see a flyer with a map at the bottom, please see http://www.doug-long.com/wforum.pdf
